This is a safe and creative environment where musicians of all experience levels work together in a supportive way to create something really cool. Good music, awesome skills, and kindness. While winning is fun, we are here for something much more important than that: we are here to grow passionate and creative musicians.
UMS Percussion is a winter percussion ensemble that runs from October through our March/April final competition (roughly 2nd and 3rd quarters on the school calendar). The purpose of our club is to teach students how to play percussion instruments in an ensemble setting. Our instructors work with students to develop technique, reading skills, and well-rounded musicianship. We practice after school Tuesdays and Thursdays (3:00 - 4:30/5:00), and play at school performances and competitions on the NCPA circuit.
All skill levels are welcome from never-played to advanced, and our instrumentation includes battery: snare, quads, basses, cymbals; and front ensemble: marimba, xylophone, vibraphone, electric bass, drum set, auxiliary, and synthesizer. Our members are diverse in musical background and in personal interests and that is what makes our membership so rich.
Additionally, feel free to email Mrs. Reynolds with any questions or come by room 3 at UMS. reynoldsj@unionsd.org
Important Dates/Links: Here are the show dates and other important dates for the season. When links are ready for show timeline and volunteer sign-ups, I will post them here (as well as send out through email and remind). In general, the shows will take from 1:00PM to 9:00PM including "lot" time, performance, and watching other bands. Snacks at Practice Snack Sign-Up for Practices link. Please be sure to send nut-free snacks, enough for 32 kids, and relatively healthy. We have students who are vegetarians, gluten free, and dairy free, so fruit or veg is something they can all eat. A GREAT idea is grapes (cut stems a little and wash), mini carrots, snap peas, or cuties and some cracker variety, or cheese sticks. There is plenty of filtered water here on campus. Thank you SO much for doing this. I believe it's the favorite part of practice for many students.
